Updated: GBI identifies man who’s body was found on I-75 in Emerson as Mack Griggs of Forrest Park; investigation continues.

FRIDAY’S UPDATE

The GBI has identified the man found on I-75 near Emerson on Wednesday as Mack Owen Griggs, 24, of Forest Park, Ga. “Investigators are still working to determine whether Griggs’ death is a homicide or accident,” according to the latest statement.

Friends are starting to post tribute messages on his Facebook page. It shows he had attended Darton State College in Albany, now part of Albany State.

Media release: On Wednesday, Jan. 10, at approximately 8 a.m., the Emerson Police Department requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation assist with a death investigation involving an unidentified white male located on I-75 northbound within the city limits of Emerson.  The GBI — along with the Emerson Police Department, the Georgia State Patrol Cartersville Post and the Georgia State Patrol SCRT team — responded to the scene.  At this time, the identity of the decedent will not be released until the autopsy is performed and a positive identification can be made.  An autopsy is scheduled for Jan. 11, 2018, at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office.  This case is being conducted as a death investigation until a determination of cause of death.
