Mr. Franklin Jerome McKnight, age 56, of 916 Maple Ave. Rome, Ga. transitioned  January 1, 2018.   The family will receive at 6 Whitehead St. ( West  Rome).  F. K. Jones Funeral Home.

Mr. Loy Russell Payton, age 91 of Summerville, formerly of Rome, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017 at the Pruitt Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Payton was born in Jamestown, Alabama, on September 4, 1926, son of the late Arthur Summerfield Payton and Carrie Virginia Hartline Payton. He was a member and Deacon of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Rome and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United State Army. He was retired from the Temple-Inland Co. where he was employed as a Lab Technician. Mr. Payton loved to fish, work in the garden and woodworking but most of all, loved spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Payton was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Ruth Arden Payton; son , Phillip Payton; and a sister, Geraldine Graves.

Mr. Payton is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Mitzi Payton; brother and sister-n-law, Joe and Frances Payton; grandchildren, Anna (Brandon) Ball, Hannah (Isaac) Etter and Haley Payton(Martin Muinos); great grandchildren, Zeke Ball and Ellie Ball; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Payton will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley Koonce officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard in charge of Military Graveside Rites.

Pallbearers will be Brian Payton, Darrell Payton, Stacy Koonce, Brandon Ball, Jay Jones and Nick Hunt. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Staff of the Pruitt Healthcare Center.

Mr. Payton will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Thursday from noon until the funeral hour.
