For many of us, our phones have become life lines. We want important information as it happens, whether from a loved one or friend sending a text to finding out about what’s happening in our world. Some of us even get reports on our watches these days.

A year ago, Hometown Headlines began testing a system of alerting you to critical local news, weather and sports. Called Hometown Text, we’ve delivered dozens of quick alerts, from election results to severe weather to critical business developments and sports highlights.

Today, we begin year two with nearly 200 informed area residents who’ve asked to receive our free text alerts. That number will grow as we expand awareness of Hometown Text.

We will send at least two alerts on Friday as we get the results from the Rome and Calhoun football championship games. We’re also watching our weather very closely to see if “wintry precipitation” is on the way.

We invite you to join us — again, for free. Please know that message and data rates may apply depending on your phone carrier; you can opt out at any time. What we’d like you to know:

  • HometownText is reserved for the most critical breaking local news. You might receive two or three a week; you might receive five a month.
  • All you do is send us your text and no other information (see below).
  • We will not share your information with anyone.

To subscribe, text HometownText to 313131 and follow the easy instructions. Again, you can opt out at any time. Questions? Just email us at druck@hometownheadlines.com.
