It’s being called the “Super Bowl of local auctions” for good reason. Hundreds of pieces of property seized from the home of Derry Richardson, one of the suspects in the Floyd County Schools’ theft investigation, goes on sale Saturday morning at Coosa Valley Fairgrounds.
Vehicles, grills, guns and real estate are among the items to be sold Saturday at whatever the price.
Work has been continuing on the auction since the settlement in the civil case against Richardson, the former maintenance chief with Floyd County Schools. Held by court-appointed receiver attorney Brian Bojo, the property is being sold to help the school system recoup more of the money lost during the suspected theft ring. Dempsey Auction is handling the sale.
And while the auction is Saturday beginning at 11 a.m., there will be time to inspect some of the property this week. The schedule:
- Dempsey representatives will be at the fairgrounds Wednesday, Thursday and Friday — Nov. 15-17 — from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Pre-registration will be available on these days.
- All guns to be auctioned will be at the Fairgrounds on Friday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. for inspection. This is the only day the guns will be on site. All firearms will be transferred and picked up at Country Sportsman, 2806 Shorter Ave, Rome. All gun sales are subject to background check and approval by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Among the items up for “absolute” auction on Saturday (which means all will be sold at whatever the top price is):
The Richardson family home on the Chattooga River — three bedrooms, 3.5 baths — at 241 Riverbluff Drive, Summerville.
A “breath-taking” collection of 50-plus guns and ammunition including AAC, Anderson, Benelli, Col, Glock, Remington, Ruger and others.
Vehicles, ATVs, construction equipment, home furnishings, tools, grills, Yeti coolers and “many additional items too numerous to mention.”
Some of the terms would-be buyers need to be aware of before arriving Saturday:
A 10 percent buyer’s premium will be charged on all purchases.
Real estate: 10% down with a balance due on or before 30 days from above date.
Personal property, rolling stock and guns: All purchases shall be paid for in full on sale day by cash, certified check, or personal/company check with bank letter guaranteeing payment to Dempsey Auction Co. for this specific auction. Seven percent sales tax will be charged and collected on the full purchase price unless purchaser has a valid sales tax resale or exemption certificate and executes the appropriate form on sale day with no exceptions.
