GPS Hospitality is replacing its short-lived Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen at 2207 Shorter Ave. with one of its Burger King franchises (currently located on the other side of the four-lane at 2214 Shorter) in West Rome. Last summers, plans were filed with the city of Rome for a $325,000 renovation. A major part of the work got under way on Monday. GPS has nearly 400 restaurants in its arsenal including Burger Kings on Turner McCall, on North Dixie Drive in Cartersville, on Adairsville Highway in that city and on U.S. 27 in Summerville. The only local Popeye’s in on a. 53 in Calhoun.

Some celebratory beers: A salute to two new players in Rome’s rising craft beer market. Rome City Brewing Co. at 325 Broad St. marketed is first anniversary of crafting hometown beer on Wednesday. The Foundry Growler Station also marks one year with a party Nov. 17 at 255 N. Fifth Ave. with specialty beers, the Swift & Finch coffee truck, food from its new kitchen and bands.
