Mr. Joseph Kirk Henderson, age 51, of Silver Creek, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Henderson was born in Rome, GA on December 9, 1965, son of Barbara Ellen Broadway Henderson and the late Joseph I. Henderson. He was a graduate of the Coosa High School in the class of 1983. He was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm, having served his country proudly in the U. S. Army, U. S. Navy, and the National Guard. He was a Police Officer and a member of the SWAT Team, serving with both the Floyd County and Cartersville Police Departments. He was a member of the Anglican Church.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Connor Henderson, Rome; his mother, Barbara Henderson, Rome; other relatives also survive.
Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:30pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Georgia National Cemetery. The Rev. Father Austin Goggans will officiate. Full military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post # 5 Honor Guard.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, at 12 Noon on Tuesday and include: Doug Burel, George Lemming, Greg Dobbins, Jason Lemming, Tom Caldwell, and Tom Ewing.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday from 11:30am until 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Ibe Gean Franks, 73, of Rome, passed away on November 2, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on June 30, 1944 in Piedmont, AL. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Maybell Reaves. Ibe was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Piedmont, AL. She worked at Ladiga Sportswear in Piedmont, AL and also for Shaw Industries in Rome. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Hubert Reeves, James Reaves, Jessie D. Reeves, Frankie Reaves and Floyd K. Reaves all of Piedmont, AL; her sisters, Annie Reaves of Piedmont, AL, Jennie B. Holbrooks of Piedmont, AL, Sandra F. Hill of Columbus, GA, Elizabeth S. Reaves of Piedmont, AL.
Ibe is survived by her husband, Ed “Pops” Franks; her daughter and her husband, Wanda and Mike Walker; her son, James Forrister; 2 grandsons and 5 great grandsons; her brothers, Kenneth Reaves of Piedmont, Al, Rickey Reaves (Sharon) of Piedmont, AL; her sisters, Glenda Jacobs (Butch) of Spring Garden, AL and Angie McGatha of Piedmont, AL.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Oaknoll Chapel with The Reverend Larry Morrison officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Jamie Reaves, George Debord, Mike Walker, Butch Jacobs, Gerome Poole and Ricky Reaves.

Mrs. Mary Bernice Goodwin, age 99, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at a local nursing facility.
Mrs. Goodwin was born in Floyd County on April 29, 1918, daughter of the late William Ward Bragg and the late Birdie Henderson Bragg. She was a member of East View Baptist Church and prior to her retirement, she had been employed by Murphy’s Department Store and by Home Health Care. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Ann Broadway on July 14, 2017.
Survivors include 2 grandchildren, Tami Broadway Godfrey, and her husband, James, Roswell, and Brian Broadway, Rome; four great grandsons and a great granddaughter also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Muse was born on January 27, 1928 in Carrollton, Georgia to Calvin T. Woods & Bertha Woods Clayton. (She married JC Muse in 1946. They had three children: Loretta, Tony, & Selena.)
She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Fay enjoyed her garden, and could be found during daylight hours weeding, tilling, and making things beautiful. She was an excellent cook & showed her love with the meals she prepared. Her laughter was infectious. She loved her family, scary movies, and traveling. She spent many years with her husband and family camping in area campgrounds surrounding Rome, Georgia. The place she called home for most of her adult life.
A funeral is scheduled for 11 AM Monday at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue, with a reception to follow. Reverend Frank Wood will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Fay’s life. Flowers and condolences may be sent to Good Shepherd Funeral Home.
Mr. John David Peña, age 60, of Rome, passed away at a local hospital, Friday November 3, 2017.
John was born in Rome, Georgia September 4, 1957.
John was a very creative person and worked creating metal art work for many years.
He is survived by his parents, Jean Margaret Horrigan Peña and Ciro Fernando Peña of Rome; and one brother, Ciro Thomas Peña of Ashville, NC.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 6th at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 911 N. Broad Street, Rome, with Fr. Rafael Carballo officiating, assisted by Deacon Stuart Neslin. There will be a reception in the Parish Hall, lower level of the Church, immediately following the Funeral Mass.
Inurnment in the Parish’s Memorial Garden will take place at a future date.
Jann Heaton Skeen, 67, also known as “The Domestic Goddess of the Internet” died Thursday evening at her residence following a short illness. There will be a private memorial service at a later date. Parnick Jennings Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home.
Mrs. Diana Thea Zitterbart Swann, age 51, of Rome, GA, passed away on Friday evening, November 3, 2017.
Diana was born in Stuttgart, Germany, daughter of the late Josef Zitterbart and Lena Leisenheimer Zitterbart. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County for the past five years, moving here from Kennesaw, GA. Diana lived in El Paso, TX, for a period of time before moving to Woodstock, GA. She attended Sprayberry High School and graduated in 1984 from Lassiter High School. She attended Roffler Hairstyling College in Marietta, GA, and worked for many years as a hair stylist. Diana loved decorating her home, taking care of her yard and shopping. She was a member of the Grace Faith Bible Church and took her faith in God very seriously.
Diana is survived by her husband, David Jackson “Jack” Swann, whom she married on November 7, 1998; one daughter, Sophia Swann. A host of other family, friends and acquaintances also survive.
A Celebration of Life for Diana will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Salmon Funeral Home. Diana’s family will receive friends on Tuesday at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
Venora Irene Williamon, 95, of Rome died Friday afternoon in a local health care facility.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 PM Monday in the Chapel of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue with Reverend Randy Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 PM until the service hour Monday.
