Duke TIP 2017: Rome City Schools sees 168 students qualify.

Duke TIP 2017: Rome City Schools sees 168 students qualify.

Media release: Duke TIP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented students. Duke TIP works with students, their families, and educators to identify, recognize, challenge, engage, and help students reach their highest potential. Now in its thirty-seventh year, the Talent Search identifies bright students based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. Students must score at or above the 95th percentile on a qualifying test in order to be identified.

Identified Elementary school students are invited to participate in the 4th–6th Grade Talent Search and to take the optional PSAT 8/9, which is designed for eighth and ninth graders. Taking an above-grade-level test is an experience that allows these gifted fourth, fifth, and sixth graders to more accurately gauge their academic abilities and potential, as they need more advanced examinations than they find in their grade level. Participants in the 4th–6th Grade Talent Search also receive a variety of support services and gain access to research and other information about using their academic abilities more effectively.

The students listed below have been invited to join the Duke University Talent Identification Program’s prestigious 4th–6th Grade Talent Search. While not all students will participate in the program, this recognition is an important acknowledgement of their hard work and abilities.

Additionally, Duke TIP identifies academically talented 7th grade students. Candidates are invited to take the full SAT or ACT as 7th graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. In addition, they gain valuable benefits and resources for gifted students. Exceptional performance on the SAT or ACT will qualify some students for Duke TIP’s renowned Summer Studies Programs (on-site programs on college campuses) and/or e-Studies distance learning program.
