Education: Dante Thompson from Pepperell Middle finishes in first place at Berry math competition; Rome Middle places third in team category.

From Rome City Schools: “The Rome Middle School Math Team placed third out of 15 teams today at the Berry College math competition.” 

 

Media release: The Fall Seventh/Eighth Grade Berry College Mathematics Contest was held at Berry College on Thursday, Oct. 12.  Fifteen seventh/eighth-grade teams competed. The top three teams were: first place, Heritage Middle School (Catoosa County); second place, Jasper Middle School (Pickens County); and third place, Rome Middle School.

Top individual student winners were: First place,  Dante Thompson from Pepperell Middle School; second place,  Eli Tollet from Heritage Middle School; and third place, Parker Taylor from Heritage Middle School.

Participating schools included:  Armuchee Middle School, Berry College Middle School, Cartersville Middle School, Coosa Middle School, Dade Middle School, Darlington Middle School, Heritage Middle School (Catoosa County), Jasper Middle School (Pickens County), Lafayette Middle School (Walker County), Lyerly Middle School (Chattooga County), Menlo Middle School (Chattooga County), Pepperell Middle School, Pickens County Middle School, Rome Middle School and Saint Mary’s Catholic School.

Berry College hosts the competition to promote and encourage mathematical excellence. Several Berry students and mathematics faculty worked with the event. Dr. Martha Tapia, Associate Professor of Mathematics Education, is the faculty supervisor for the event.
