Mr. Jack William Brown, Jr., age 68, of Rome, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017, in Ellijay, GA
Mr. Brown was born in Floyd County, GA on May 13, 1949, son of the late Jack William Brown, Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Roberts Brown. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Delores Brown. He was a graduate of Armuchee High School and Pacific Western University, earning his Master’s Degree in Engineering. Mr. Brown was a veteran of the United States Navy having served from 1968 until 1972. Following 10 years of employment at Floyd Medical Center, he retired from Johnson Controls, Inc. in 2005. Most recently, he was employed with Barnsley Gardens Resort. Mr. Brown was a member of Armuchee Baptist Church.
Survivors include 3 sons, Jack William “Trey” Brown, III, Jason Charles Brown, and Adam Neal Brown, all of Rome; 5 grandchildren, Amanda Kirsten Brown, Cloey Brown, and Jack William Brown, IV, all of Rome, and Gavin and Gage Brown, Cave Spring; a sister, Denise Brown, Armuchee; 2 brothers, Jim Brown, and his wife, Sandy, Armuchee, and Jon Brown, and his wife, Kim, Rome; nieces and nephews also survive.
In keeping with his requests, Mr. Brown will be cremated with no formal services. His remains will be placed at Georgia National Cemetery at a later date.

Colonel (retired) James Miles Burdette, Jr. (Jim), age 90, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 5, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Colonel Burdette was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 31, 1927, son of the late James Miles Burdette, Sr. and the late Addie Layton Burdette. He was a graduate of Calhoun High School and received his Business Degree from North Georgia College in 1945, where he met his wife Sara Alice Motes Burdette. He also attended the University of Southern Illinois Graduate School. During his Air Force service, he attended the following schools: Air Tactical School, Air Command Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He retired in 1971 after serving honorably in the Air Force for 26 years.
Upon moving to Rome after retirement he worked at Berry College in several positions
including Director of the Student Work Program. After retiring from Berry College, he opened a real estate firm for several years. When finally settling in to retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his hobby of antique cars and his black lab Sam. He considered his greatest achievement in life to be his family whom he loved beyond description. He and the love of his life Sara, shared 69 years of marriage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Virginia Brogden, Margaret Holland, Joanne Burdette and Bill Burdette. He also suffered the greatest loss of his life with the death of his son James Miles Burdette III in 2015. He is survived by his wife, his son John Burdette and his wife Teri of Powder Springs, Georgia; his daughter Jennifer Heller and her husband Dennis of Rome, Georgia; and his late son Jimmy’s wife, Debbie Burdette of Lawrenceville, Georgia. His precious grandchildren, Jeff Burdette; Laura Burdette Holland and her husband Craig; David Heller and Maclayne Heller; as well as one sister Carolyn Caroline Clements. He enjoyed this last year spoiling and bragging about his one-year-old great grandson Lucas Holland.
Funeral services will be held On Monday, October 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Larry Caywood officiating. Visitation will precede the funeral from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Daniel’s Funeral Home, Rome.
Tracy Allen Harman, age 64, of Cave Spring, Georgia passed away on Friday October 6, 2017 at Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Tracy was born September 4, 1953 in Bowdon, Georgia to Ruby Harman and George Emory Harman.
Tracy is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginger” Ruth Harman.
Tracy was preceded in death by; father George Emory Harman and mother Ruby Harman.

Mr. Kenneth Edward “Kenny” Hendrix, age 56, of Armuchee, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017, in a local hospital.
Mr. Hendrix was born in Rome, GA on October 25, 1960, son of the late Farris E. Hendrix and the late Florine Peek Hendrix. He was a 1978 graduate of Armuchee High School. Mr. Hendrix was a manager of C. V. S. here in Rome for a number of years. Prior to his becoming disabled, he was employed with Ingles Food Store in Calhoun. He was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing, canoeing, and many sports, as well as photography. Mr. Hendrix was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Hendrix, Armuchee; 2 sisters, Glenda Sherby, and her husband, Joe, Rome, and Debbie Vass, and her husband, Bob, Chattanooga, TN; a brother, Randy Hendrix, Rome; nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at 2pm in Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church Cemetery. His brother-in-law, Bob Vass, will officiate.

Opal Bagley Hicks, 87, of Rome, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at a local hospital.
Mrs. Hicks was born on March 5, 1930 in Resaca, GA. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Harvey Bagley and the late Jeanette Borders Bagley. She was a member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church since 1964. She had served in leadership in Sunday School, WMU and Young at Heart Seniors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John C. Hicks and her sister, Barbara Bagley Clark of Fairmount, GA.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Patricia and Bobby Brewer of Rome, Cal and Gina Hicks of Rome, and David and Lynne Hicks of Lindale; her grandchildren, Stephanie Stewart (Tracy) of Rome, Rebecca Arendt of Durham, NC, Jonathan Brewer (Aaron Cornelison) of Aurora, CO, Karlee Hicks (Aaron Morris) of Rome and Kara Greene (Jamie) of Rome; her great grandchildren, Macy Rittenhouse, Morgan Stewart (Alena Holmes), Christian Arendt, Hanna Arendt, Seth Arendt and Ben Hicks-Morris; her step-grandchildren, Isaac Greene and Maddy Greene; and her great-great- grandchildren, Addison Rittenhouse, Alivia Stewart and Wesley Stewart.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church with The Reverend Skip Myers and The Reverend Max Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the service hour at the church.

Mrs. Patricia Stocks, 70, of Rome, Georgia passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at Redmond Medical Center surrounded by her loving family and friends.
