Obituaries: Glenda (Bonnie) Maxine Byrd, Gerald Russell Dodd, Mabel Nora Seckinger Hodge, Margaret Ann Eden Reynolds and Mrs. Freddie Words

Mrs. Mabel Nora Seckinger Hodge, 91, of Savannah, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

Mrs. Mabel was born in Rincon to the late Lester E. and Nora G. Seckinger. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Albert M. Hodge, daughter, Marsha, brothers, Charles, Rupert and David Wertz and sister, Ida Oglesby. She worked for Union Camp (now International Paper) in Garden City. She helped many, including family, extended family and friends. She was a member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church and was always participated in church, taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Luther League.

Survivors include her daughter, Debra Darlene Hodge; son, Albert Mallard Hodge, Jr.(Cheryl); sister, Mildred S. Burgstiner; granddaughters, Stephanie Crow Brummett (Trent), Brentleigh Crow, and Marie Hodge Gordon (Michael); great-grandchildren, Savannah, Ryleigh, Libby and Matthew.
The visitation will be on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Risen Savior Lutheran Church from 12 until 2 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Jerusalem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Effingham County.

Mrs. Glenda (Bonnie) Maxine Byrd, age 75, of Fairmount passed away Thursday September 28 after a brief illness.

Mrs. Byrd first saw the light of day December, 21, 1941, an early Christmas present for her parents Howard Clayton Swann Sr. and Ruth Lee Swann (Roberson)

She worked in and around Rome for many years in the carpet industry.

She leaves behind to mourn her passing -children: Anthony “Tony” Howard of Abbeville, Jason S.Byrd of Forsyth, Pansy (and Curtis) Buttrum of Fairmount and Tammy A. Byrd of Cedar Bluff Alabama. She is blessed with 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

One sister, Nellie G Johnson of Lindale and one brother Thomas F Swann of Dalton also survive.

Gone on to make way for her in the Heavenly Kingdom are two sisters, Willie E Ford, and Mary A Holcomb, two brothers Howard Swann Jr.  and Houston L Swann and a grandson Gerald Lee Clay.

In keeping with Mrs. Byrd’s wishes she was cremated.

The family will possibly arrange for a memorial service later.

Mr. Gerald Russell Dodd, age 63, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at his residence.

Mr. Dodd was born in Rome, Georgia on August 28, 1954, son of Martha Lou Puckett Green and the late Henry Dewey Dodd Jr.

He was also preceded in death by a niece, Andrea June Young, and by his maternal grandparents, June and Janie Puckett.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Dodd worked for a number of years as a Loom Maintenance Technician for Gayley & Lord. He was a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Puckett Green, Rome; a brother, Gayland Dodd and his wife, Julia, Rome; a sister, Sandra Grooms and her husband, Robert, Glen St. Mary, FL; a nephew, Andrew Dodd; a niece, Alexandra Dodd.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. J. R. McWhorter officiating.

Following the service, Mr. Dodd will be cremated in accordance to his wishes and will be interred at a later date at Spring Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 5 until 7 p.m.

Mrs. Margaret Ann Eden Reynolds, age 83, of Rome, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Reynolds was born in the Eden Valley Community of Rome on June 30, 1934, daughter of the late Thomas Earl Eden and the late Parilee King Eden.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Billie Eden Whorton and by a brother, Jimmy Eden.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed with the Rome News-Tribune as Circulation Manager for a number of years.  Mrs. Reynolds was a member of East Rome Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Arthur Reynolds, to whom she was married on August 27, 1955; a daughter, Trena Reynolds, Rome; a son, Vic Reynolds, and his wife, Holly, Marietta; 2 granddaughters, Lanie Reynolds Johnson, and her husband, Nick, Houston, TX, and Mackie Reynolds Singleton, and her husband, Kail, Vinings, GA; a sister, Elder Scoggins, Rome; a brother, Donald Eden, Acworth; her grand dog, Millie, and her grand cat, Zoey, who she cared for frequently, as well as nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017, at 11am in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with her nephew, the Rev. Jim Reynolds officiating.  Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Monday from 9:30am until the service hour.  At other times, they may be contacted at the residence.

Pallbearers are requested to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Monday at 10:30am and include:  Tim Reynolds, Donnie Reynolds, Nick Johnson, Kail Singleton, Tim “Earl” Whorton, Brian Blair, and Buddy Childers

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Network Day Services, 402 W. 10th Street, Rome, GA  30165.

Mrs. Freddie Words, age 94, of 2441 Skyline Ridge Dr. Lithia Springs, Ga. (formerly of Rome), tranisitioned  September 29, 2017. A complete schedule of Mrs. Words Celebration Of Life will follow a later date. Care and Direction entrusted to F. K. Jones Funeral Home of Rome, Ga..
