Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bishop, age 96, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

Mrs. Bishop was born in Plainville, GA, on October 4, 1920, daughter of the late Marcus Thomas Thacker and the late Mary Lou Kilgore Thacker.

She had spent the greater part of her life in Floyd County and had been employed by Champion Garment Company for 10 years and was later retired from Kay-towne Antenna. She enjoyed cooking, baking cakes and pies, and also loved quilting. She was the most loving and giving person that loved the Lord and attended church regularly as long as she was able.

She lived in the Dykes Creek Community for most of her life, moving to the Lindale area where she spent the last 13 years. She had been a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Kingston, the Friendship Baptist Church, Rome, the Tabernacle Church, where her late son, Rev. Windle Bishop, was the Pastor. She was the oldest member of the Dykes Creek Baptist Church but in her later years she attended the Hollywood Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Bishop, to whom she was married on October 17, 1935, and he passed away in 2003.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Rev. Windle Bishop; a granddaughter, Karen Gail Flemming; and by siblings, John L. Thacker, Frank Thacker, M.T. Thacker, Helen Standridge, Rose Cardella, Sarah Stalvey, Bessie Wheeler, Jessie Kilgore, Odessa White, Clifford, Hubert, Marvin and Morris Thacker.

Survivors include; 3 daughters, Jennie Pruitt (Donald), Alpharetta, Doris Fleming (Fred), Rome and Lynn Baker (Mike), Lindale, a daughter-in-law, Brenda Bishop, Kingston; a brother, Charles Lee Thacker (Winnie), Jonesboro; 2 sisters, Fran Walker (Kenneth), Kennesaw, and Margaret Busby, Rome; 11 grandchildren, Matt Bevels, Liz Pollock, Suzanne Hooker, Mark Bishop, James Fleming, Jeff Smith, Denise Brenner, Lauren Denning Hankins, Jeff, Ben, and Melissa Baker; 12 great grandchildren, Isaiah Bevels, Rachel and Jacob Pollock, Ashleigh Vaughn, Miles Hooker, Lee Blair, Travis Fleming, Dax Bishop, Carey Morris, Brandie Heuer, Natalie, Tracey, and Joseph Smith; 14 great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at the Dykes Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Mikel Garrett will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Dykes Creek Baptist Church, prior to the service, on Wednesday from 12:30 until 2 p.m. At other hours, the family may be contacted at each of their respective residences.

All pallbearers are asked to assemble at the Dykes Creek Baptist Church on Wednesday at 1:30pm and include: Active: Isaiah Bevels, Dax Bishop, Marvin Williams, Larry Fincher, Ben and Jeff Baker. Honorary: members of the Joy Sunday School Class of the Hollywood Baptist Church as well as Jeff Smith, Howard Tyler, and Jerry Emerson.

Mrs. Joan Paulette Edwards Barger, age 70, of Acworth, GA, passed away Sunday evening, September 3, 2017, in Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.

Mrs. Barger was born in Rome, GA on February 3, 1947, daughter of the late Rev. Ollie Linton “O. L.” Edwards and the late Mattie Pauline “Polly” Rampley Edwards.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed with A. T. & T. for many years.  She was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Woodstock and the Order of the Eastern Star, Woodstock Chapter.

Survivors include her husband, Dyer Ladell “Dell” Barger, to whom she was married on May 3, 1972; 4 sons, Ricky Barger, and his wife, Elizabeth, Pineville, NC, Todd Carden, Lindale, Chris Carden, and his wife, Jacqueline, Cartersville, and Linton Barger, and his wife, Jennifer, Acworth; 4 grandchildren, Ricky Barger, II, Jacksonville, FL, Shelby Green, and her husband, Chris, Rome, and Nicadian and Calin Barger, both of Acworth; 5 great grandchildren, Zoe, Tristan, Malachi, Emersynn, and Christopher; a brother, Kenny Edwards, Rockmart; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 11am in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Tony Cargle officiating.  Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday from 5 until 7pm.  At other hours, they may be contacted at their respective residences.

Pallbearers are requested to assemble at 10:30am and include:  Chris Green, Nicadian Barger, Calin Barger, Andy Edwards, and John Kiser.

Mr. Godfary Tyrell Finley Jr., age 30, of  802 Church St. Rockmart, Ga. transitioned August 31, 2017. F. K. Jones Funeral Home.

Ms. Michelle F. Turner, 40, of Rome passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Wright Memorial Mortuary.
