Mr. William Pasley Wimberly, age 73, of Rome, passed away at his residence Thursday, August 31, 2017.
Mr. Wimberly was born July 18, 1944. He was the son of the late Neal Augustus Wimberly and Elsie Pasley Wimberly. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Augustus Wimberly, PhD, and James Rice Wimberly.
He was born in Floyd County and graduated from East Rome High School, attended West Georgia College and Shorter College. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rome, where he served as an usher. He was a member of Cherokee Lodge #66 F & AM, the Camp Sidney Dew Alumni Association, was a football coach at the Boys Club for many years and coached Little League Baseball behind the levee. He worked for Georgia Kraft for nine years and retired from Georgia Power Co. after 33 years of service.
He loved watching Alabama Crimson Tide play football and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He and his wife loved to travel and toured many countries.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Audrey McCreary Wimberly; son, James Stephen Wimberly of Rome; daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Tim Shaw of Knoxville, Tennessee; three granddaughters, Taylor Shaw, Reagan Shaw of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Sophie Engal, of Juist, Germany. Several nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Wimberly will be held Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert Brown and the Rev. Tom Bridges officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens with Cherokee Lodge #66 F&AM in charge of gravesite rites. The family will receive friends Friday evening, September 1, 2017 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Daniel’s Funeral Home.
Those serving as pallbearers include the following gentlemen: J.O. Green, Jake Gibbs, Jim Armstrong, Leroy Minshew, Dale Farmer, Michael Wood, Gary Vincent and Carl Battles. There will be a called communication of Cherokee Lodge No. 66 F & AM Saturday at 9:30 A.M.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the Community Kitchen, 3 Central Plaza, P. O. Box 384, Rome, Georgia 30161.
Cindy Teresa York Moats, age 50, of Rome passed away Tuesday August 29, 2017, at her residence.
Cindy was born December 30, 1966, in Floyd County a daughter of the late Tommie York, and Helen Croy York.
Survivors include her son, Rich Moats, daughters, Madison Moats, and Montana Moats, grandchild, Auburn Moats, sisters, Sherry Styles, Ollie York-Glaze, and Sonya Vaughn, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday September 1, 2017 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev Chris Hart, officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until funeral hour on Friday.
Mrs. Robbie Oliver Phelps, age 95, of 216 Watters Street NE Rome, Ga. transitioned August 31, 2017. Celebration Of Life for Mrs. Phelps will be Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 12 noon at Holsey Sinai CME Church located at 1233 MLK Jr. Blvd. NE in Rome, Ga. Mrs. Phelps will lie in repose from 11 a.m. until the service hour. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 4, 2017 from 6 pm until 7 pm at F. K. Jones Funeral Home in Peek Chapel.
