PetSmart opening Sept. 30 in Cartersville:  Sidewalk superintendents have been watching all the commotion at the former  Kroger site off U.S. 41 and Main Street in Cartersville since earlier this year. We later learned a 20,330-square-foot PetSmart was heading to Cartersville, valued at $3 million, but we didn’t know exactly where until a bit later. Now the company website lists a Sept. 30 opening at 51 N. Morningside Drive. Hiring is under way as well. PetSmart

Martin’s Restaurant targets late September opening. The latest buzz from about the site rising next to El Nopal is that Martin’s restaurant will open in the last week of September. Based in Mableton with two restaurants in Cartersville, Martin’s is known for its cats head breakfast biscuits and chili dogs.  Store hours: 5 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 6 a.m.-3 p.m. Sundays. What we’re watching: The instant competition between Martin’s and the new Chick-fil-A across the street due to open Sept. 14, especially at breakfast.

Today, craft brewers such Rome City Brewing Co. and fans of their beers are hoisting one to celebrate Senate Bill 85. Effective today, it allows craft breweries to sell up to 3,000 barrels of beer per year directly to consumers. Patrons can drink unlimited amounts of beer on site at breweries, and each customer can purchase up to a case of beer (288 ounces total) per day to take off site. Previously, the limit was 72 ounces. Breweries also are able to sell food onsite (source: WABE).
