Mr. “Eddie” Walter Elliott Giles Sr., age 73, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday August 8, 2017. Mr. Giles was born February 5, 1944 in Calhoun, Georgia. He was the son of the late Elliott Dean Giles and Mary Jean Dodd Giles. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, David Giles and Bryan Giles.
He grew up in Rome until the age of 13 and moved to Miami, Florida. He then moved back to Rome in 1974 and began his career with Georgia Power and retired after 31 years of employment. He loved working on and restoring old cars. He loved restoring clocks, loved boating, hunting, and going to car shows, especially classic car auctions who he loved going to with his son John. He and his wife have been members of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church since 1974.
Survivors include his wife, Kim Giles, of Rome, to whom he was married for 55 years; two sons, John Giles and his wife Josclyn, of Rome, Walter E. Giles Jr. of Cartersville, Ga.; and one daughter Kathleen Giles of Marietta, Ga.; one sister, June Gossman and her husband Richard of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, and two grandchildren Jillian and Jennilyn Giles of Rome. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A rosary for Mr. Giles will be held Saturday morning, August 12, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rome. Following the rosary will be a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s with Fr. Joseph Shaute officiating. Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery, Rome. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 911 N. Broad St. NE Rome, GA. 30161.

Mr. James E. Daniel, age 62, of 220 Jones Ave., Rockmart, Ga., passed on Thursday, August 3, 2017. Services for Mr. James E. Daniel will be Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Lovejoy Baptist Church. The body will lie instate from noon until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Macedonia Cemetery ( Morton Bend). Mrs. Winona Walker Garrison, age 87, of Rome, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017, at her residence.
Mrs. Garrison was born in Toccoa, GA on February 25, 1930, daughter of the late Henry Bremen Walker and the late Daisy Ivie Walker. She was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Garrison, and by 2 brothers, Mike and Ivie Walker. Prior to her retirement, she was an Administrative Clerk with the State of Georgia, Department of Administrative Services for several years. Mrs. Garrison was a member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Peggy Crump, Clearwater, FL, and Kimberly Sisson, and her husband, Steve, Rome; a sister, Glyness Meeks, Lillington, NC; 3 grandchildren, Krishna Atkinson, and her husband, Cliff, Dallas, TX, Mallory Gresham, and her husband, Josh, Rome, and Alex Crump, St. Petersburg, FL; 2 great grandchildren, Bradley Crump, St. Petersburg, FL, and Sadie Gresham, Rome; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Skip Myers and the Rev. Earl Drummond officiating. Interment services will follow in St. Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church Cemetery in Alto, Ga., at 3:30pm.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 10am until the service hour.
Pallbearers are requested to assemble Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and include: Mike Nelson, Richard Flemister, Alex Crump, Josh Gresham, Cliff Atkinson and Ross Freeman.
