What is it about Broad Street’s ever-growing sweet tooth?
We’ve seen the success with Frios Gourmet Pops. Gelato has been a mainstay at Honeymoon Bakery for almost a decade. The City Creamery has dabbled in a few areas including frozen yogurt and gourmet pops.
So why not ice cream rolls?
The signs went up Friday for Rock n Roll Ice Cream Rolls at 326 Broad St., next to Greene’s Jewelers, and the buzz already has started.
Tony and Mo Jasir, the same brother duo behind Rome’s Jerusalem Grill, plan to open their new shop in early September bringing a new twist to your favorite ice cream.
“We will actually be making the ice cream from scratch. We will have a flat top that is -30 degrees Fahrenheit and will pour the liquid ice cream mixture onto the flat top where it freezes…you will actually get it watch it freeze while we roll it on the flat top. We will roll it off into a cup and then you can add toppings of your choice,” says Tony.
He says it will take about 3-4 minutes for the ice cream to freeze and roll. The concept is something similar to Cold Stone Creamery except this ice cream will not have mix-ins on a marble slab.
“This is definitely something different,” says Tony. “To start, we will have flavors of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and green tea. You will be able to pick from a number of toppings including fresh fruit, candies, nuts and more.”
Business hours are still being finalized, but will likely be Monday-Thursday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Closed on Sundays.
