Pam Tebow, mother of famed athlete Tim Tebow, will be returning to Rome this fall for Haven Health Clinic’s Friends for Life Banquet on Sept. 19. Tebow was in town last November when Haven Health Clinic for Women, formerly known as The Pregnancy Center of Rome, hosted a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at their office at 311 Redmond Rd.
Tebow, who is a well-known pro-life advocate, speaks on her personal experience when she became pregnant with her fifth child (Tim) while living in the Philippines with her family as missionaries. While pregnant, she became ill with amoebic dysentery and was treated with a strong medicine that put the baby at risk. Doctors urged her to seek an abortion, but she refused and later had a healthy baby boy.
Since 1986, the Haven Health/Pregnancy Center of Rome has served some 8,700 young women in our area. It’s a ministry that is supported through generous donations and fundraising events to help the center provide much needed counseling and information to these women dealing with an unplanned pregnancy.
“We provide free pregnancy tests to in fact confirm that the young lady is pregnant,” says Loresa Heyward, director. “We also provide free ultrasounds and a number of resource materials and information to help them. Many are scared and so we help them learn about what options are available and counsel them.”
One of the ways the Haven Health funds their program is through the annual Friends for Life Fund Raising Banquet. This year’s event will be on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at The Forum.
General admission tickets are complimentary and available on a first come, first serve basis. Reserved tables for 10 can be purchased for $300. Monetary donations will be accepted at the event. Free parking will be available at the Third Avenue Parking Deck.
