Remembering Mrs. Vivian Joanne Bartel, Mary Elaine Cagle, Mrs. Karen Dale Derewenko, David Edwards and Spencer Lee

Mrs. Vivian Joanne Bartel, age 60, of Cave Spring, GA, passed away on Thursday afternoon, July 6, 2017, in a local hospital.

Joanne was born in Rome on February 26, 1957, the daughter of the late Gordon Lee Davis and Vivian Maxine Tucker Davis.  She had been a resident of Floyd County her entire life and was a housewife and homemaker.  In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee “Bob” Smith.

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Linda Thomaston, of Cave Spring; two grandchildren, Jacob and Victoria Thomaston.  Her former husband and friend, Vernon Bartel, also survives.

In honoring Joanne’s wishing, she will be cremated and the family will host a private memorial service at a  later date. Salmon Funeral Home.

Mary Elaine Cagle, age 66, of Rome passed away Wednesday July 5, 2017 at her residence.

Mrs. Cagle was born July 12, 1950, in Floyd County, she was a daughter of the late Aubrey Ingram, and Ruby May Newberry Ingram. She was retired from Kellogg’s Bakery. She was preceded in death by brothers, Johnny Ingram, Forrest Ingram, sisters, Annie Mae Davenport.

Survivors include son, Jim Cagle, Rome; daughters, Lisa Reid, Rome; Sherry Cagle, Rome; brothers, Gary Ingram, Rome; A.V. Ingram, Texas; sisters, Peggy Highfield, Texas; Teresa Bradford, Rockmart; 7 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday July 8, 2017 at Parnick Jennings, Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Synard Bradford, officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour on Saturday, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, GA. 30165.

Pallbearers include, Jim Cagle, Erica LeCory, Bryant LeCory, Josh Reid, Byran Cagle, and Tripp Pegg.

Parnick Jennings, Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Karen Dale Derewenko, age 62, of Silver Creek, passed away Wednesday evening, July 5, 2017, at her residence.

Mrs. Derewenko was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on March 18, 1955, daughter of the late Albert and Jacqueline Frith Remfert.  She was employed for a number of years as Office Manager with Redmond Family Care in Lindale and West Rome.  Prior to her illness, she was employed with Ancora Pain Management here in Rome.  Mrs. Derewenko was of the Anglican Episcopal faith.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Trawick Moyers, to whom she was married on July 5, 2007; 2 sons, Michael Derewenko, Encinitas, CA, and Brian Derewenko, and his wife, Carolyn, Houma, LA; a brother, Philip Remfert, and his wife, Denise, and his daughter, Misty, Dallas, TX; nieces, nephews, and cousins in Medicine Hat and Taber, Alberta, Canada.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Deacon Stuart Neslin will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign.

David Edwards

David Edwards, age 59, of Rome passed away Thursday July 6, 2017 in Erlanger Medical Center, in Chattanooga.

David was born July 2, 1958, in Floyd County. He was the son Louise Tucker Edwards, and the late Floyd Edwards. David dug graves by hand for many funeral homes in North West Georgia for 51 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Edwards; brother, Steve Edwards; sister, Brenda Edwards.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Danette Sharp Edwards, daughters, Tisha McDonald, Rome; Caprice Willetts, Rome; Shandie Minter, Rome; Ferren Dawson, Rome; mother, Louise Tucker Edwards, Rome; brothers, Jimmy Ray Edwards, Rome; Roger Edwards, Cave Springs; Michael Edwards, Cedartown; 7 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 2 great granddaughters, several nieces and nephews, also survive.

Family visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday July 10, 2017 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.

David was laid to rest at Beech Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery, by his request at 10:30 P.M. on Thursday the day of his passing.

Mr. Spencer Lee, 60, of Rome, GA. passed away, on July 7, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
