Erin Hernandez, executive vice president of the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition, joined us on Hometown Radio on Wednesday on WRGA 98.7 FM to discuss the Health Initiative for Men and Women set for Saturday, Aug. 19, at the health department. Once again, the event is free for all — and for the second consecutive year, it is open to men and women. A series of free health screenings will be offered. Some will require fasting in advance, Hernandez says, so guests should fast after midnight. Light refreshments will be served at the event as well. More than 400 people usually attend the health fair, which also features information stations. Hernandez told of one patient who had kept all the screening results from a previous visit. The patient was delighted to show off all the improvements made in the past year thanks to a moderated diet and lifestyle, Hernandez says. Groups interested in participating in the 2017 initiative can call 706-291-9809. corrected
