‘For sale’ sign in front of the Dempseys’ home sparks political rumors. We’ll snuff them: Katie Dempsey to run again in 2018 from a new home in the 13th District.

Much like football, politics is never out of season in Northwest Georgia.

And just like football, there are those who embrace the “fantasy” leagues, an elaborate what-if look at pro teams where you draft players and compete with real stats. That happens a lot around here with politics as well and here’s your latest “draft pick:”

The listing of the home of state Rep. Katie Dempsey and Georgia Real Estate Commissioner Lynn Dempsey in Old East Rome this week.

The listing, by Hardy Realty, is legit: the one-acre homestead is on the market.

But Katie Dempsey is adamant in stressing they’re downsizing to an as-yet unknown new dwelling in House District 13, which she has represented since after the 2006 election. What’s more, “I will be running again in a few short months,” says the Rome Republican.

So let’s quash the rumor she’ll be leaving the House any time soon.

Speculation about a move started soon after Lynn Dempsey was appointed real estate commissioner by Gov. Nathan Deal (background). That translates into a lot of time in metro Atlanta for him. Katie Dempsey says she started getting calls about selling the home after Lynn’s appointment. Given the size of the home and upkeep of the property, she says it’s just time to move into something a bit less demanding.

Again, that something will be within the House district. Adds Katie Dempsey of Rome: “This is home.”

As for the home at 811 Highlands Ave. Rebecca Woodard of Hardy Realty is the agent. For more: Listing
