The Georgia Department of Transportation says a detour off Tennessee Street/U.S. 411 in Cartersville is scheduled for this weekend. Tennessee Street will be closed and traffic detoured into North Tennessee Street and East Felton Road from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday to accommodate work on the demolition of the old US 41 bridge over Tennessee Street. This road closure it is weather permitting and subject to change. This bridge work is part of a 1.079 mile project of widening and reconstruction on US 41/SR 3. The project also includes the construction of the bridges over CSX Railroad, U.S. 411 and Pettit Creek. Work on this project began early September 2014. The entire project is expected to be completed by Feb. 5, 2020, at a construction cost of $31,546,121.
From Floyd County Public Works: Callier Springs Road will be reduce to one lane from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. from Monday through Thursday, May 22-25, in the area of 2614 Callier Springs Road. Expect delays.
Reminder: The annual law enforcement memorial service in downtown Rome is Friday beginning at 11 a.m. at Memorial Plaza at the law enforcement enter off Fifth Avenue. Includes will be the reading of the names of 20 officers lost in the line of duty.
The Tomb of the Unknowns replica — from the Americanism Committee of the Exchange Club of Rome — will be on display at Kroger at Riverbend Center on Monday, May 22, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and at Walmart in East Rome on Tuesday, May 23, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. It will then be part of the Memorial Day Weekend observation planned at Coosa Valley Fairground.
