Mrs. Linda Anne Hughes Fricks, age 74, of Rome, passed away on Monday morning, May 15, 2017, at a local hospital.
Mrs. Fricks was born in Floyd County, Georgia on May 15, 1943, daughter of the late William K. “Bill” Hughes and the late Margaret Gilstrap Hughes. She was also preceded in death by a son, Billy Fricks, a grandson, B. J. Fricks, a great granddaughter, Summer Lynn Fricks, two sisters, Elaine Morgan and Ilene Smith, and a brother, George Hughes. Mrs. Fricks worked at Gibson’s Department Store, Rome Manufacturing and retired from Floyd Medical Center. She was a member of the Calhoun Avenue Baptist Church, the Rome Shrine Ladies, and Mercer Care for Grands. Linda asked that you not be sad for her, she fought a good fight.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Larry Fricks Sr., to whom she was married on March 26, 1961; four children, Larry Fricks Jr. and his wife, Sandy, Gary D. Fricks, Sabrina Morgan and her husband, Todd, and Connie Fricks and her husband, James Collum; grandchildren, Blake Fricks, Amanda Fricks, Dustin Fricks, Kansas Fricks, Keelee Fricks, Billy Morgan, G. J. Fricks, Corey Fricks, Ashley Davis and Jessica Collum; two great granddaughters that she and her husband were raising, Kirsten Fricks and Kiara Fricks; 15 great grandchildren; a sister, Margie Creekmore and her husband, Fred, Calhoun; an aunt which was like her second mother, Viola Abney, Lindale; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Earl Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow next to her son, Billy, at East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday from 5 until 7pm. At other hours, they will be at their respective residences.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and include: Active: Leo Mercada, Corey Fricks, Billy Morgan, Tyler Hutchens, Ricky Mandujano and Phil Kelso. Honorary: Members of the Rome Shrine Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an endowment fund to be established for Kirsten and Kiara’s education or to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
Ms. Bobbie McGowan Smith, age 85, of Rome, passed away Saturday evening, May 13, 2017, at her residence.
Ms. Smith was born in Rome, GA on April 11, 1932, daughter of the late Thomas David McGowan and the late Luda Holtzclaw McGowan. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Gladys McCullum and Mildred Fricks, and by 3 brothers, Horace, David, and Thomas McGowan. Ms. Smith was employed for a number of years with the Floyd County Board of Education and the Georgia State Board of Education. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as System Accountant with Murray County Public Schools. She was a member and Past President of the Georgia Association of School Business Officials and served in leadership for many years. Ms. Smith was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Donna Smith Sutton, and her husband, Johnny, Richardson, TX, Janet Smith Fricks, and her husband, Billy, Lindale, and Gwen Smith Herbertson, and her husband, Richard, Rome; 3 sisters, Nancy Farr, Jacksonville, FL, Sarah Hammock, Carthage, TX, and Linda Dodd, Jacksonville, FL; 5 grandchildren, Haley Fricks Smith, and her husband, Al, Summerville, Jeff Sutton, and his wife, Lauren, Richardson, TX, Abby Fricks Hastings, and her husband, Micah, Silver Creek, Trevor Herbertson, Rome, and Katie Herbertson, Rome; 8 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
In accordance with her wishes, Ms. Smith was cremated. Private services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Ira Lee Roberson, 84, of Rome passed away on May 11, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on December 25, 1932 in Rome, he was the son of the late Harrison Roberson and the late Bessie Shirey Schrimsher. Lee was a member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church. He was a retiree of Rome Kraft. His family was his focus and he will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Betty Mae Boozer Roberson and his brother, J.L. Roberson.
Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Jean and Greg Sloman; his sons and their wives, Michael and Terry Roberson, Timothy and Jeana Roberson, Billy and Anita Roberson, Robert and Hazel Roberson and Mickey and Bridgette Roberson; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren; his brother, Dale Schrimsher; and his best friend and cousin, Huey Shirey.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church with The Reverend Skip Myers and The Reverend Max Tucker. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion will have charge of Military Rites. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Dale Schrimsher, Dale Roberson, Bryan Scott, Steve Roberson, Brandon Roberson and Devan Roberson.
