Edgar Watson Obituary

Mr. Edgar Lee Watson, age 88, of Rome, passed at a local health care facility Saturday April 15, 2017.

Mr. Watson was born in Knoxville, Tennessee July 13, 1928. He was the son of the late Carl Edgar Watson and Elizabeth Louise Sheer Watson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jane Watson Moore and her husband, Willis, of Cleveland, Tennessee.

Mr. Watson was a native of Knoxville, Tennessee and a graduate of the Tennessee Military Institute and earned his Industrial Engineering degree from the University of Tennessee (Go Big Orange). He served his country in the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a faithful and loving member of his church family, First Presbyterian Church of Rome, where he served many years as an elder.

“Big Ed” is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mrs. Mary Ann Watson, and his three children “Buckshot” Lee (Allison) Watson of Rome, “Sister” Becky (Chris) Stansel of Rome, and “Monkey” Elizabeth (Hank) Alford of Columbia, South Carolina. Also surviving are six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, two nephews and a niece.

“Big Ed” will be remembered as having never met a stranger. He enriched our world with his humor, wisdom, strength and kindness.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening April 18, 2017 from 6pm until 8pm at Daniel’s Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. April 19, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, Rome. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memory Gardens of Rome. The United States Army will render military rites at the gravesite.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to be made to First Presbyterian Church 101 East 3rd Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30161 or the American Epilepsy Society, 135 S. LaSalle St #2850, Chicago, Il 60603.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ingram McDonald, age 82, of Silver Creek, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017, at her residence.

Mrs. McDonald was born in Dekalb County, AL on June 25, 1934, daughter of the late Otis and Beatrice Williams Ingram.  She was a 1952 graduate of Pepperell High School in Lindale.  Mrs. McDonald began her employment with Tri-County Library here in Rome.  For many years, she was the Bookmobile driver, carrying books over the rural areas of Floyd County.  In 1990, she retired from Sara Hightower Regional Library following 38 years of employment.  Throughout her life, she was a caregiver for her family including her parents and her husband of over 56 years, Herman Alvin “Sonny” McDonald, who preceded her in death in 2012.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Freddie Ingram.  Mrs. McDonald was a member of Silver Creek Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include 2 sons, Brian McDonald and Keith McDonald, and his wife, Jennie, all of Silver Creek; 3 grandchildren, Marie Elizabeth McDonald, Savannah, Allen Kiah McDonald, Athens, and Justin Lee McDonald, Silver Creek; 2 brothers, Ralph Ingram, and his wife, Barbara, Cave Spring, and Gary Ingram, and his wife, Tammy, Rome; a sister, Janis Ingram, Silver Creek; her caregiver, Michelle McGinnis, Cedartown; many beloved nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017, at 2pm at Silver Creek Presbyterian Church with her Pastor, the Rev. Camille Josey officiating.  Following the service, Mrs. McDonald will be cremated.

The family will receive friends at Silver Creek Presbyterian Church on Friday from 12:30pm until the service hour.  At other times, they may be contacted at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Silver Creek Presbyterian Church, 6 Old Rockmart Road, Silver Creek, GA  30173.

Mr. Michael Edward Chapman, age 46, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017, in an Atlanta Hospital.

Mr. Chapman was born in Floyd County, Georgia on July 16, 1970, son of Claude “Junior” Chapman and Martha Reece Chapman.  He was a graduate of the Coosa High School and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Buffy Ann Williams Chapman, to whom he was married on February 14, 1995; 3 sons, Joshua Williams and his wife, Shelby, Mobile, AL, Zachery Miller, Rome, and Michael Chapman, Jr., Rome; his parents, Claude “Junior” Chapman and Martha Reece Chapman, Rome; a brother, Curtis Chapman and his wife, Andi, Rome; 2 sisters, Tammy Matney and her husband, James, and Lynn McCain and her husband, Jeff, both of Rome; a grandson, Justice Williams;several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, April 20, 2017, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday from 6 until 8pm.  At other hours, the family may be contacted at the residence.

Mr. Shellie Ray Robinson, age 81, of 1260 Hightower Trail, Atlanta, Ga., passed on Monday, April 17, 2017. F. K. Jones Funeral Home.
