No Photo LoadedMr. Kenneth “Lil Kenny / Mudd ” Albert, age 35, of 315 Stubbs St. in Cedartown, transitioned on May 22, 2016.  Services will be Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1 pm at Cedar Springs Baptist Church in Cedartown.  The body will lie in state from noon until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Polk Memory Gardens. F. K. Jones Funeral Home.

Mr. Nathaniel Porter, 93 of Rome passed away on May 24, 2016 at a local hospital. Wright Memorial Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

John Carl Smith, age 67, of Rome passed away Sunday, May, 22, 2016 at his residence.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. Smith was born May 29, 1948, son of the late Ada Byars Smith and Ed Smith. He was a graduate of East Rome High School and a veteran of the United States Navy, serving with the 7th Fleet from 1969 until 1973.
Mr. Smith served with the Rome City Police for 14 years, worked with Rome Seed and Feed, and was employed with Home Depot from April 17, 2000 until his death. He loved working with his Home Depot “family.” John loved football and video games, especially “Vikings Gone Wild.” He was a master gardener and landscaper, and was a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church. John was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Smith, in 2013.
Survivors include his brothers and sisters in law Tim and Cindy Payne and Leyburn and Olivia Smith all of Rome: Two stepsons Michael E. (Lori) Williams and Parke (Tricia Ory) Williams; A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, May 26 in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue with the Reverend Jerry Dudley officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Robert Junior Hughes, age 81, of Rome, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at his residence.

Mr. Hughes was born in Armuchee, GA on November 13, 1934, son of the late William Marion Hughes and the late Mary Margaret Rollins Hughes.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marline Bryan Hughes on August 4, 2014, and by 3 sisters and 7 brothers.  Mr. Hughes was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during Korean War.  Prior to his retirement in 1994, he was employed with General Electric here in Rome for over 28 years.  Mr. Hughes was athletic all of his life, playing softball into his 60s.  He taught his children love for sports and people.  Mr. Hughes was a member of East Floyd Lodge #728 F. & A. M. and attended Dykes Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his 5 children, Robert Joe Hughes, and his wife, Tammy, Canton, Cathy Tidwell, and her husband, Darien, Rome, Regina Fortune, and her husband, Lee, Cave Spring, Barry Hughes, and his wife, Joan, Aragon, and Alicia King, Rome; 10 grandchildren, Bethany Perry, Charissa Hughes, Jeremy Hughes, and his wife, Julia, Faith Tidwell, Juli Skelton, McKenzie Fortune, Jared Hughes, and his wife, Lauren, Makayla Hughes, Jamie King, and his wife, Kenberly, and Matthew King, and his wife, Lacey; 10 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Woodfin, the Rev. Mikel Garrett, and his brother-in-law, Tony Bryan officiating.  Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard extending military honors and the East Floyd Lodge #728 F. & A. M. presenting graveside Masonic rites.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Thursday from 5 until 7pm.  At other hours, they may be contacted at their respective homes.

Pallbearers will include:  Jamie King, Matt King, Jeremy Hughes, Jared Hughes, Lee Fortune and Larry Dixon.

Miss Nettie Medley, age 73, of Rome, passed away Monday, May 23, 2016, in a local hospital.

Miss Medley was born in Fitzgerald, GA on June 21, 1942, daughter of the late John Medler, Jr. and Elise McGillis Medler.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Medler III, and by a niece, Jamequa Medler.

Survivors include her brother, James Medler, and his wife, Alfredia, Buffalo, NY; nieces and nephews including Charlie McGillis, Atlanta, Patrina M. Anderson, Albany, GA, Sharell Medler, and her husband, Joseph, Charlotte, NC, Yakeshia M. Elmore, and her husband, Jamie, Jacksonville, FL, Khadeidra Medler, Buffalo, NY, and Quionta Medler, Buffalo, NY; cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Anderson officiating.  Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 12 noon until the service hour.
