14 killed in Memorial Day traffic accidents statewide including a Plainville man.

Fourteen people died in Memorial Day accidents between Friday evening and midnight Monday, May 30, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety. Among them was a Plainville man killed Sunday afternoon (details below). In 2015, 10 people died on state highways in Memorial Day accidents.

From the Georgia State Patrol: On Sunday at 1:17 p.m., a trooper was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on Ga. 53 at Plainville Road in Gordon County. The rider of a motorized bicycle failed to yield and traveled into the westbound lanes of Ga. 53 from Plainville Road and was struck by a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The rider of the motorized bicycle, Randall Keith Rice, 56, of Plainville, was not wearing a helmet. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a contributing factor in this crash. The investigation is continuing Monday afternoon.
