The Pregnancy Center of Rome has a new name to reflect its new services. Now known as Haven Health Clinic for Women, the organization now offers ultrasound services in addition to its traditional pregnancy testing and counseling services offered for the last 30 years.

havenhealth“We started as the Crisis Pregnancy Center in 1986 and later changed the name to just the Pregnancy Center of Rome. And now we’re Haven Health Clinic for Women. We thought with it being our 30th anniversary and the addition of new ultrasound equipment, now was the time to change our name to reflect our new services,” says Loresa Heyward, director.

The center has always offered free pregnancy tests and counseling for women to understand their options whether they received a positive or negative test result according to Heyward.

“We counsel them because many are dealing with so many emotions if they are unexpectedly pregnant or maybe want to be (pregnant) and aren’t,” she says. “For an abortion-minded woman, many come in thinking we do abortions, but we don’t. We simply counsel them and educate these women on all of their options including becoming a parent, adoption and what’s involved in an abortion. Many women don’t know what they are doing when they consider abortion.

“We have found that if these abortion-minded women have an ultrasound at 8 weeks pregnant and see the heartbeat and realize there is a life there, its not just tissue, about 85% of them will change their mind after the ultrasound.”

To address this need, the center has converted to a medical clinic versus a counseling center only and will soon be offering free ultrasounds.

“We purchased an ultrasound machine and we thought now was a wonderful time to change our name. We are now Haven Health Clinic because we are a safe place for women to come. All information is confidential and they can come get encouragement and support,” says Heyward.

Haven Health now has a part-time Nurse Manager who will be managing a staff of four volunteer sonographers that include registered nurses and one physician. The clinic also has a medical team that includes an overseeing physician and radiologist.

“Our training begins on Monday and our sonographers will be training for the next two weeks to be certified. We need at least 50 volunteers of pregnant women between 6 and 24 weeks to come in for a free ultrasound. We will give each a picture of their ultrasound and they will be entered to win one of three $100 Walmart gift cards,” says Heyward.

Appointments are open Oct. 18-27. Call 706-235-6833 to schedule.

To celebrate their new services and name change, Haven Health will host a special ribbon cutting and grand opening event on Friday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. featuring a very special guest. Pam Tebow, mother of famed athlete Tim Tebow, will be in Rome for the festivities.

“Pam Tebow is a very strong pro-life advocate and she will be here to share her story of how doctors wanted her to abort Timmy, but she didn’t support abortion and made the decision to have the baby and look at him today,” she says.

The event is free and open to the public. Parking will be available at the Redmond Office Park at 311 Redmond Road or across the street at the vacant church parking lot. In case of rain, the event will be moved to West Rome Baptist Church at The Well.
